There is no limit to achievement, no matter what your current skill set is. The human being was created to keep on growing, to explore new territories and to succeed in all of them. True to this thought pattern, Ghana's leading soccer star Asamoah Gyan has explored new horizons by starting his own airline. Gyan plays as a striker for a soccer club called Kayserispor and is also the Captain of the Ghanaian national team.
The airline, which is called Baby Jet (BBJ) Airlines after Gyan`s nickname, was recently issued with a certificate of operation by the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA). The airline is set to first start operations as a cargo carrier before it becomes a passenger airline.
What an interesting development for the aviation industry in Ghana. Even the Ghananian President, Mr Nana Akufo-Addo was impressed at the footballer`s initiative. Whilst giving a speech at the 2017 African Airshow, the President said:
"I've been reliably informed that the Captain of our senior national football team, Asamoah Gyan has obtained an air carrier licence. He is working feverishly to establish an airline, obviously called Baby Jet Airlines. I want to call on other Ghanaians both at home and abroad to invest in the rapidly growing aviation sector”
The young footballer responded to the president's commendation by thanking him on Twitter stating:
"this is a call to work hard with my team to make the BBJ airline dream a reality soonest and create jobs. I also urge the public to ignore any social media page talking about recruitment for BBJ. It's a scam. If you need any info contact my team."
Gyan has always been a man full of ambitions outside the football pitch. The 31-year-old has a chain of businesses off-field too. In June 2012, he turned his attention towards a well know boxing promotion and announced he would put on his debut boxing show in Ghana. When starting his boxing show, he stated:
“Ghana has a lot of great boxers previously like Azumah Nelson, Ike Quartey and Joshua Clottey, so we need to push the young ones coming up. I would like to encourage the young ones coming up and those who want to achieve their aim.”
The launch of Baby Jet Airlines is a welcome move that will very much compliment Ghana`s efforts to grow its airline industry and become the ultimate hub for tourism growth in the West African region.
